The apple has been historically associated and identified as the fruit that defines and embodies the fruit of The Knowledge of Good and Evil( from the Garden of Eden in the Holy Bible). It is what supposedly gave man self-awareness and unlocked the potential and limits of man’s nature, which spiralled into more acts of its own will as opposed to the will of a higher power, law, or in this case God. With this I pose the question of how badly one desires something under the eyes of law and/ or consequence, and how big of a sacrifice one is willing to make to get what they want.

The amputation of the hands is a direct reference to the biblical verse from the book of Matthew chapter 5 verse 30: “And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for, thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into , hell.”
